Bobby left St. Mary's Roman Catholic School with two GCSEs. He wanted to go out to work and gain his own skills. He applied to Training 2000 and passed the initial test. He found his own plumbing apprenticeship with Blackpool Borough Council. He goes to College one day a week to study for NVQ 2 in Plumbing. It is a four-year course and he will achieve NVQ 4 in Plumbing and Gas-fitting by the end of it.
Bobby likes to keep fit. He swims for North Lancashire; he swims four times a week and goes to the gym twice a week.

'I always wanted to be a plumber. I chose an apprenticeship as I wanted to earn a wage at the same time as gaining the qualification. Once you have got your own skills, nobody can take them away from you.'
'I love the four days of work and the one day at College - it is just perfect. It is good to learn the technical side at College and gain the practical experience at work.'
